New Cumbernauld treatment room suite will open its doors in less than two weeks

CUMBERNAULD will have a new treatment room suite the NHS have confirmed.

The new suite will open its doors at Central Health Centre, Cumbernauld, on Monday 10th December.

The health centre has been fitted with a modern, custom-designed treatment room facility which will provide both phlebotomy (taking bloods) and treatment appointments.

The Treatment Room Service offers a wide range of practical hands-on treatments such as injections, leg ulcer management, wound management, dressings and specimen collection.

Anne Armstrong, Divisional Director of Nursing – Primary Care, NHS Lanarkshire, said: “The new suite is part of the new treatment room arrangements being rolled out across Cumbernauld and the rest of Lanarkshire. It is a first class facility where patients will be able to access the full range of treatment room services provided by specialist treatment room staff and phlebotomists. This development will create additional treatment room appointment slots in Cumbernauld and we look forward to it becoming a well-used and valued service.”

New Treatment Room Service arrangements are being introduced across Cumbernauld in three stages.

From Monday 10th December, the first stage will see the new treatment room suite available to patients of the two Central Health Centre GP practices and patients at Craigmarloch Health Centre. Treatment room services will continue to be available at Craigmarloch two-and-a-half days a week on Tuesdays 9am-5pm, Wednesdays 9am-1pm and Fridays 9am-5pm. In 2013, the Wednesday opening times will be extended to 8am-1pm.

The second stage will be in early 2013 when all treatment room services at Kenilworth Medical Centre transfer to the new treatment room suite at Central Health Centre.

The third and final stage will take place later in 2013 when patients across the rest of Cumbernauld are able to access the new treatment room suite at Central Health Centre. At this time the existing treatment rooms at Abronhill, Condorrot and Kildrum health centres will move to a part-time service opening two-and-a-half days a week.

Anne said: “Once the introduction of the new service is complete, patients at Craigmarloch, Abronhill, Condorrat and Kildrum health centres will have the choice of a treatment room appointment either at their local part-time treatment room or the option of an appointment at the new suite in Central Health Centre, which will be available 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.”

People can be referred to the Treatment Room Service by their GP, district nurse or by health staff at an acute hospital.

The new treatment room arrangements will also free up district nursing staff from providing treatment room services which will enable them to focus on the care of housebound patients and those with complex needs.

NHS Lanarkshire is linking closely with GP practices to ensure the smooth implementation of treatment room changes, which follow a review of the service that was carried out last year.

NHS Lanarkshire has also been working jointly with the Save Cumbernauld Treatment Rooms Action Committee to make sure people in Cumbernauld are informed about and have the chance to feedback on the introduction of the new service.

Ross McGuffie, Locality Service Manager, North Locality, said: “We are grateful for the valuable input and feedback we have received from GPs and the Action Committee which will help us successfully introduce the new arrangements in the best way possible for the people of Cumbernauld.”
