SFA’s Cumbernauld Coaching Conference was a “great success”

CUMBERNAULD’S Broadwood Stadium, last month, played host to the Scottish Football Association’s Coaching Conference.

The event, which was hosted in mid-October, went without a hitch on the 14th October at Broadwood Stadium.

The day was a sellout with a maximum capacity of coaches from both grassroots and Junior levels looking to improve their knowledge of the game.

For a nominal fee thanks to the support of McDonalds, coaches from across the Central region and Scotland were given a full day of coach education from two top European coaches. Lee Skyrme from Welsh club Cardiff City FC, who ply their trade in the Championship in England, and Christophe Moulin from FC Sion in Switzerland. It was also an opportunity for the SFA to briefly outline their new pathways for coach education.

The day was structured with a mixture of theory and practical demonstrations. Both guests delivered a live demo training session on the luscious Broadwood fourth generation pitch. A selection of young Cumbernauld Colts players were put through their paces as attendees took notes from the seated stand. One of the boys participating in the guest coaching session told YFS he feels he has learnt valuable lessons from the day, “It really did benefit me, as I can take that sort of stuff into my game. I feel a lot more confident”.

Andy Gilchrist, Central region manager, said: "I think it was a great success, the sessions have been good and the young players thoroughly enjoyed themselves".

The day wrapped up with a Q & A session with the visiting guests, allowing coaches to pick their brains and have their questions answered.

Following the conference, Scotland under 19s played host to their Swiss counterparts at the Falkirk stadium with the young Scots coming out on top 4-3 with Islam Feruz grabbing a perfect hattrick.
