Cumbernauld once again saw emergency drama today (Friday 3rd August 2012) as a man was arrested at gunpoint on the A8011, in Cumbernauld.

Sources online indicate that armed police officers held the man against a vehicle before detaining him on the floor, at the Old Inns Roundabout, up from Wilderness Brae, which saw Wednesday's car crash drama.

Cumbernauld Media’s Twitter account (@CumbernauldWeb) soon received a tweet from commuter Steve Gilchrist‏ (@DocSteveO), who told us: “I didn't see much except road blocked at Old Inns Roundabout with police cars further up the A8011.”

Little is known about the incident, but the first Twitter post was timed at shortly before noon today. However, Cumbernauld Media has learnt that the operation was carried out by Strathclyde Police in conjunction with the Metropolitan Police.

A spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police told Cumbernauld Media: “Following a police operation this morning in Cumbernauld a man is presently detained in police custody in connection with an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Metropolitan Police.”
