The community of Cumbernauld have rallied behind a new online Facebook campaign which promotes better safety measures for Wilderness Brae, the part of Cumbernauld’s A8011 which saw three men killed and one hospitalised after a three car pileup, yesterday afternoon.

Launched shortly after the accident was publically announced, the Facebook page now hosts close to 4,000 supporters, with town centre signatures being gathered for the group’s petition.

The campaign’s Facebook page was organised by Nicole McAllister whose own family suffered the loss of family member on one of Cumbernauld’s dangerous roads.

The fatal accident occurred on the A8011 Wilderness Brae at approximately 12.45pm on Wednesday afternoon, with the campaign launching itself shortly afterwards to encourage improved safety measures on the A8011.

Strathclyde Police’s Road Policing Officers have continually appealed for information and witnesses to come forward following the fatal accident and anyone with information is asked to contact the unit in Motherwell on 01698 483000.

Cumbernauld Media will be interviewing the campaign’s organisers later today, but you can let us know how you feel using the contact details below.
