Cumbernauld saw relatively little rain fall compared with the levels predicted by the Met Office, yesterday.

Cumbernauld-Weather.co.uk have revealed that despite an amber rain warning from the Met Office and an amber flood warning from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency Cumbernauld saw little rain fall throughout the afternoon.

Figures taken from the Westfield area of Cumbernauld, yesterday, show that the rain fall rate was 92 millimetres per hour for two minutes, shortly before midnight, at 23:48. Then, the average rain fall rate eased to 11mm per hour before stopping.

Then, at 00:12am, it then started again, averaging 18mm per hour for ten minutes before reducing to 1.6mm per hour until just after 1am.

Despite the Met Office’s predictions of heavy persistent rain fall throughout the afternoon, the total rainfall between 11:45am and 1pm was only 14.6mm, with only 1.3mm falling between 11:30am and 16:30pm.

A spokesperson for Cumbernauld-Weather.co.uk said: “This data is accurate for Westfield, other areas of Cumbernauld may differ.”

There are no weather warnings released for today by the Met Office.
