Cumbernauld may have to dig out their wellies again today with an amber warning issued by the Met Office for persistent heavy rain in Cumbernauld throughout today.

The latest weather warning is a damper for hopes that warm summer weather would provide relief against the poor weather conditions the UK has been experiencing over the past few weeks.

The Met Office issued a yellow alert last night but upgraded the warning to amber as 13mm of rain fell on Cumbernauld overnight.

The weather warning is active through from 1pm until 10pm today, with heavy rain and low winds predicted.

Cumbernauld Weather site creator and moderator, Paul Ward tweeted about the Met Office’s predictions, saying: “13mm of rain since midnight in #Cumbernauld”, adding: “9mm was between 11:45 and 00:45”

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency has issued an orange flood alert warning for today, warning that localised flooding is possible and that residents should be prepared.
